The sony xperia touch Turns Any Furniture Into An Android Screen You Can Interact With.
Does it bore you that all our technology looks like a rectangular box? Well, that’s about to change. The sony xperia touch brings new possibilities to the table-literally. You put it on any flat surface like a wall, a table, the floor and it will beam down all the applications of an android device on it and you can interact with the interface just like you would with a smartphone.
So, What is the xperia touch exactly
There aren’t many touch screen projectors out there today that would really catch our attention. But the sony experia touch has because of its very smooth response to touch and seamless interface. You can basically turn any surface in your house into a scalable android powered touch screen interface. All you need is a surface of light color.
The xperia touch is a portable short range projector which is capable of producing a very large image at a significantly short range. You can use it on basically any plaster. You’ll get projections ranging from 23 to as large as 80 inches in size depending on the distance the projector is from the display surface.
If you’re thinking that that the xperia touch requires external input from other android devices; you are mistaken. The xperia touch itself is a full fledged android device, it does almost everything a regular smartphone would but on a projected screen. It has access to google play and you can use all your favorite apps and games.
Things we liked about the xperia touch.
When put on a table top horizontal surface the device can display a projection of up to 23 inches. The android UI offers a very smooth interactive experience. The large projection area offers a lot more freedom in comparison to the largest tablets out there. In such a large interactive area playing multiplayer games. However touch latency is not optimal for more dynamic games. We also found the 13 mega pixel camera to be a welcomed feature, it really simplifies setting up conference calls.
Things we didn’t like.
The xperia touch is anything but a perfect product. It has more of downsides than a $1700 product should. It is admittedly impressive to watch the latest Hollywood block buster on an 80 inch widescreen the first few times. But as time goes you start to notice the short comings of the projector’s fixed resolution which isn’t much. In a fairly bright room the laser diodes used in the xperia touch is very often insufficient. The laser diodes are limited to just a 100 lumens. The most frustrating thing about the xperia touch is the lack of an audio output. Which means you have to rely on the built in speaker of the xperia touch or blue tooth speakers. You may use the USB-C port at the bottom of the device but it is mostly occupied by the charger for its short battery life.
The sony xperia touch is a very futuristic and exciting product with many possibilities ahead of it. But it definitely needs a very major list of improvements if it has to earn that $1700 price tag. There are many other alternatives with similar yet often better attributes which cost lower. However, it requires no external android device to function, it is by itself an android device. We find that to be very admirable and a foundation to build upon.
